Aluminum 6061-T6511 Rectangular Bar, 0.375" Thick, 1" Width, 36" Length Feature

  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Versatile for medium to high strength requirements
  • Use for transportation components, recreation products, machinery and equipment
  • Good finishing characteristics
  • Min 38 ksi tensile strength
Aluminum 6061 is one of the most widely used alloys in the 6000 series. This standard structural alloy, one of the most versatile of the heat-treatable alloys, is popular for medium to high strength requirements and has good toughness characteristics. Alloy 6061 has excellent corrosion resistance to atmospheric conditions and good corrosion resistance to seawater. This alloy also offers good finishing characteristics and responds well to anodizing; however, where cosmetic appearance is critical, consider the use of alloy 6063. For screw machine applications, alloy 6061 has adequate machinability characteristics in the heat-treated -T6/-T6511 condition. Chips from machining (particularly turning and drilling) can be difficult to break in the -T6/-T6511 temper condition. Chip breakers are recommended, and special machining techniques (i.e. peck drilling) can improve chip formation.

Stainless Steel 303 Square Bar, ASTM-A582, 3/16" Thick, 3/16" Width, 36" Length Feature

  • ASTM-A582
  • Corrosion Resistant
  • Free Machining
  • High temperature Strength
  • Low Temperature Toughness
Stainless Steel Square Bar Type 303 ASTM-A582 is a free-machining alloy with sulfur content that enhances its machinability. Typical applications include bolts, bushings, nuts, shafts, and parts produced on automatic screw machines. Stainless Steels are alloys of iron and carbon that contain between 12 percent and 30 percent Cr, plus other alloying elements. The chromium, which helps develop a passive surface oxide film, provides corrosion resistance in stainless steels. Stainless Steels are wrought or cast and consist of several families that are named for their metallurgical structure. Stainless Steels are fabricated and welded by all common processes and are used for their corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, scaling resistance, and low-temperature toughness. Density is .29 lbs./in3. Formability is good, and cold working results in increased strength. This alloy is non-magnetic in the annealed condition, although it may become slightly magnetic after cold working. It can be hardened only by cold working, and not by heat treatment. Stainless Steel 18-8 denotes 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel. This generic designation Stainless Steel 18-8 includes Types 301, 302, 303, 304, and 305.

Aluminum 6063-T42 Square Bar, 0.625" Thick, 0.625" Width, 72" Length Feature

  • Good resistance to general corrosion
  • Easily welded or brazed
  • Use for door and window frames, electrical components and conduit, railings and furniture, heatsinks
  • Good extrudability and high quality surface finish
  • Min 18 ksi tensile strength
Alloy 6063, one of the most popular alloys in the 6000 series, provides good extrudability and a high quality surface finish. In the heat-treated condition, alloy 6063 provides good resistance to general corrosion, including resistance to stress corrosion cracking. It is easily welded or brazed by various commercial methods (caution: direct contact by dissimilar metals can cause galvanic corrosion). Since 6063 is a heat-treatable alloy, strength in its -T6 condition can be reduced in the weld region. Selection of an appropriate filler alloy will depend on the desired weld characteristics. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for proper safety and handling precautions when using alloy 6063. Alloy 6063 offers excellent response for anodizing in its -T5, -T52 , -T53 (“matte finish”), -T54, -T6 (“lustrous” finish) tempers. The most common methods are clear, clear and color dying, and bright dipping and hard coat. Bright dipping provides an economical alternative to mechanical polished finishes while offering improved surface durability.

Starrett D2 Tool Steel Flat Stock, Precision Ground, Standard Tolerance, ASTM A681, 1" Width, 1/2" Thick, 18" Length Feature

  • Stock is dimensionally stable-use it for the most intricate work
  • Deep hardening characteristics and fine grain structure
  • Machines freely-fully spheroidized, annealed
  • Full length identification-eliminates confusion with other steels
  • The Starrett Company uses its own ground flat stock and die stock for many of its fine precision tool parts
Furnished in 18" and 36" lengths, ground straight and parallel. It is recommended that stock be heated uniformly to 1450 degree-1500 degree F and quenched in oil Temperature of the quenching oil should be 120 degree -140 degree F for best results Do not quench in water because this is an oil hardening steel. For maximum toughness, a tempering time of one hour at temperature is recommended Use chart for selecting desired Rockwell C hardness and corresponding tempering temperature The following table may also be used as a guide depending on type of work. Cutting Tools: 300 degree-350 degree F (Light Straw). Solid Punches and Dies: 400 degree-450 degree F (Straw). Spring Temper: 750 degree-800 degree F (Blue).
